Thanks for the explanation.

Thanks for the explanation.
Bill
Thanks, that explains why there is no option. Would it make sense to add some kind of explanation (in the settings or somewhere else) on how to revert to the >, >> form of quoting for those who wish to turn off graphical quoting or uninstall the extension?
Just for clarification, is it just these settings that can't be changed or is it any Config Editor settings that can't be changed??
Thanks,
Bill
ZitatTry the Add-on off and set in config editor entries as follow:
mail.quoted_graphical -> false
mail.quoteasblock -> false
mailnews.display.disable_format_flowed_support -> true
Thanks Bastler. I disabled the extension. I changed the first two options from "true" to "false". The last one was already set to "true". Doing this did cause TB to revert to the standard >, >> type quoting. I then enabled the extension and changed them back to "true" and the graphical quoting was back. Just what I needed.
Not sure why there isn't an option to do that in the extension. It seems like if a person wanted to quit using graphical quoting that there should be an easy way to revert to the standard quoting. I only want to do it occasionally. I prefer the graphical quoting.
Thanks!
Bill
I would like to temporarily disable graphical quoting so that the >, >> type quoting is used. I have disabled the Quote Colors & Collapse plugin and restarted Thunderbird, but it is still showing the graphical quoting. I would have thought that disabling the plugin would have caused TB to go back to the default quoting.
Is there a way to go back to the default quoting? Are there settings in Config Editor which need to be changed? Which ones?
I am on TB 102.9.0 and Quote Colors & Collapse 4.1.0.
Thanks,
Bill
OK... thanks for all your help. Plugin working great and as designed.
Thanks,

Thanks again for the reply.
I have all my accounts set to use HTML. So I guess all my replies should be in HTML.
Could it be that the thing that decides whether graphical quoting is shown is the format of the message being replied to?
I sent a message to myself and then replied to it and the graphical quoting was showing. That made sense since my originai would have been HTML and my reply should be also.
I then replied to some messages from members of my family. Some replies did show graphical quoting and some showed ">". Maybe the ones that showed ">" in the reply were because the original email was in plain text?
Thanks,
Bill
Thanks for the reply.
I am a bit unsure how TB works in regards to HTML and plain text. Maybe you can help. I looked around a bit on the web, but couldn't figure it out.
I thought I was using HTML for my messages. I don't have "send messages as plain text if possible" selected. All of my address books entries are set to "unknown" as far as how they prefer to have their email formatted. Should this result in my messages being sent in HTML? Is there any way I can tell if they are HTML or not? I sent myself a message and looked at the headers, but didn't see anything about HTML or plain text, but I might have just missed it.
Thanks,
Bill
Thunderbird 91.10.0 on Windows 10 21H2 using version 3.2.7 of the plugin.
When I reply to a message which has quoted text, the graphical quoting goes back to just using one or more ">" symbols. I thought that maybe the Compose Options would allow me to see the graphical quoting in the reply window.
Should the graphical quoting appear in the compose window for a reply?
Thanks,
Bill
Thanks for the explanation. That does help to explain it. A question though... what is the extras menu?
I don't mind the location changing... as long as I know where to look.
I just hope all add-on developers stick to the same location!
Thanks,
Bill
I finally found Options in the ... menu to the right of the disable/enable slider. Don't know what made me look there. I have never seen options there for any other extension. Usually I see them in Tools > Add-on Options or as a separate item in the Tools list or as another item on the line that usually has Details and Permissions in the Addons Manager entry for the extension.
In any case, I did find it. Whatever is the correct place to put the Options... I wish extension writers would be consistent in how they do it. It is confusing having 4 different places where they are put.
Thanks!
Bil
I just installed version 2.0.7 of Quote Colors and now I do not have an entry for Quote Colors in Tools > Add-on Options like I used to. Has it moved somewhere. I looked around but couldn't find it anywhere. In the notes it says "This addons options dialog has now to be opened from the Addons Manager Tab (because of the internal WindowListener-API update).", but I do not see Options as a link anywhere on the extensions page in the Addons Manager.
Thanks,
Bill
Thanks for the explanation. I will turn off the background colors since that is what is confusing.
Thanks,
Bill
Please, give the following information:
I am brand new to this plugin. I really like it, but I have a question.
When I select the option to use background colors for the different levels of quotes, it seems to link the quote to the wrong line describing who made the quote.
I have attached an example, with added comments about why it looks strange to me.
Is this the way it is supposed to work? I hope I am clear enough.
Thanks,
Bill
